Media Space
MORE INFORMATION

Media Space comprises a 600sqm photography gallery, a multifunctional space for installations, events and creative workshops, and a social space extending the full facade of the museum. BKD created zones to facilitate informal meeting and learning, designing the space to represent the values of the Science Museum, while also fulfilling the ambition of appealing to an adult audience.

BKD’s approach retained and responded to the qualities of the building, while creating a stimulating visual landscape capable of accommodating, and adapting to, a changing programme of events. The design exploits the potential overlap and relationship between activities. Large structural walls that had previously defined an external light well were removed, enabling an interconnection of spaces. Large sliding screens offer flexibility and varying separation between spaces.
