Ben Kelly

Josephine, Paris
MORE INFORMATION

The design for Joséphine, a working nightclub installation, was commissioned by Silencio and installed within the beautiful Salon Nijinsky Suite at Théâtre du Châtelet, Paris. Joséphine was inspired by RUIN, an installation Kelly created in collaboration with Virgil Abloh in 2018, commissioned by the Vinyl Factory for 180 The Strand.

The design features elements from Kelly’s seminal design of the Haçienda nightclub in Manchester. These include roadside bollards around the stage, and remnants of the balcony supports. Also included are sections of the RUIN installation including the dancefloor, and the neon signs- the photo.kid & /ruin/. Kelly also hand painted abstract graffiti style black and yellow stripes onto the ruined entrance interim.

The installation was produced in collaboration with MDM and Les Ateliers du Théâtre du Châtelet.
