BKD was asked to convert a former warehouse into a new boutique hotel complete with bar, restaurant, members’ bar and nine bedrooms. The client wanted to create a contemporary environment, functional but well-designed, catering to both travellers and the local community much as a traditional terminus hotel or coaching inn would have done. BKD’s understated scheme incorporated many local materials, such as the black granite bar top, douglas fir panelling and Bute Fabrics that were used throughout. Other unique details included off-square mirrors, clusters of randomly-placed ceiling lights and functional, integrated furniture. The result is a hotel and meeting place offering high levels of comfort within the constraints of a former industrial building.

Borough was declared one of the "coolest hotels in the world" in Conde Nast Traveller's yearly Hot Hotel List that selects 32 of the most stylish hotels around the world each year.
