Vault Youth Zone is part of a decade-long regeneration of Preston's city centre, where a refurbished bus station, public square and Youth Zone work together to create a community-focused urban quarter. Ben Kelly's collaboration with architects John Puttick Associates on the building brings his signature blocky, modernist graphic sensibility to a space designed to inspire young people. His colour palette, using bold shades of orange, yellow and blue with red subtly denoting out-of-bounds areas, sits alongside a wider interior scheme of industrial-style columns, diagonal striped fittings and hard-wearing finishes, creating a result that is both visually striking and built for purpose.
