Aiming to create a series of urban gyms sited in unusual (and hard to let) spaces, the Gymbox brand breaks the mould of aspirational, white-box fitness clubs by offering a more stimulating, club-inspired environment.
The fourth project for Gymbox that is situated in Westfield shopping centre, provided generous floor to ceiling heights spread over two floors. A large section of existing floor was removed by BKD to allow for a huge double height entrance space with a steel and pre-cast terrazzo staircase which takes visitors from the reception area to the main gym floor above. On the upper level there is a double-lane running track with an integrated light for sprint training. An existing glazed wall with views over West London houses a number of terraces containing the cardio equipment. BKD worked closely with graphic artist Anthony Burrill on the large-scale wall graphics that provide a backdrop to the main space and dance studios.
