BKD was commissioned by long-time collaborator Tony Wilson (director of Factory Records) to convert the top floor of a vacant Manchester city-centre industrial building into a high-spec loft apartment. Keen to preserve and highlight the building’s many original features, BKD’s sympathetic scheme featured ornate cast metal columns painted in strong colours, exposed brickwork with tiled walls, and original beams which butted-up to the new blond wood structural additions. The industrial palette was also reflected in the galvanised ducting, industrial radiators and all-weather tiles, office-style glass partitions, the metal staircase leading to a mezzanine and the stainless steel kitchen range.
